Artist in Residence

Jennifer mcdonald'

Jennifer mcdonald's work is concerned with how the female self is constructed through both social and cultural systems and instinctual drives. she interested in the relationship between desire and repulsion. Within her work themes of femininity, defilement and nature are often juxtaposed with those of masculinity, cleanliness and the synthetic. She work in a diverse range of media including sculpture, installation, performance and transient materials. Her installations are often a physically encompassing experience in which sight, smell sound and touch are employed. Previous work includes an installation in which a dark thorned corridor was contained within a simple geometric form. My live performances in collaboration with artist Louise Woodcock are focused around investigatory and instinctive responses to sound objects. In previous performances, hollow plaster balls have been played using nails, skin, feedback, bones, beads and pencils. Current projects involve fabricating ripe-looking fruit using discharged body substance.
